The Mound Builders / Antique Scream / Devil to Pay / Apostle of Solitude @ Jerilee’s Pub – 3/24

0

Welcome back, ResinHit Readers!

It’s been a long time since we’ve had the chance to make an update. Our period of hibernation lasted a bit longer than expected, and for that, we apologize. But with certain matters now settled and out of the way, we are happy to say that we are not gone, and moving ahead. Rest assured, during the past few months, many resinous remunerations and requiems were being brewed in the sacred bowels of the Swollen Goat.

Meanwhile, here’s an upcoming show… Lafayette sultans of Sludge, THE MOUND BUILDERS, are hosting a black mass of rock and metal this Saturday at Jerilee’s Pub in Lafayette, Indiana. Joining them will be APOSTLE OF SOLITUDE and DEVIL TO PAY of Indianapolis, as well as Seattle’s ANTIQUE SCREAM. That’s a pretty epic line-up for only $5 at the door.

Rumor has it that Jerilee’s will be streaming the show for anybody who may not be in reasonable caravanning distance to Lafayette. If we learn any more about this in the next couple days, we will post the link to the stream on the day of the show. Check back soon for more updates.

As many as ten songs of varying influences are planned for tracking in the coming months. Title and tracklist will be revealed in a future update.

Afterwards, the Hedons plan to return to perform the new material and old favorites for hard rock fans across the central Indiana region, re-taking the stage  on 4/20 at The Rock House.

“Earth on my Nerves” Reviewed on Suite101

The Hedons - Earth on my NervesThe word continues to spread on the Hedons’ 2011 EP release, “Earth on my Nerves“. This review comes to us from Christopher Latta, contributing metal music writer for Suite101.com. An Indiana resident himself, Chris is dedicated to getting the word out on the Hoosier heavy rock and metal scene. Perhaps one of the most in-depth and insightful reviews we’ve seen thus far…

God bless stoner rock

As someone who is a big fan of the doom metal and stoner rock genres, I’ve recently noticed that there are an unusually good number of them in the Indianapolis area. The Gates of Slumber are easily the most recognized on an international basis but bands like Devil to PayApostle of Solitude, and Bulletwolf are all pretty hard to ignore.

Enter The Hedons, a self-proclaimed “astro doom” trio that has been gaining some attention since their formation in summer 2010. Originally formed from the remains of a band known as Necropharmacon, this six-song EP is their first release and serves as an interesting indication for what can be expected from them in the future.

“Earth on my Nerves” is still available for download at the band’s Bandcamp site, and will become more widely available in the near future. A second run of compact discs is forthcoming as the astro doom trio continue to raise funds. In the meantime, they’re scheduled to perform at one remaining gig on December 3rd at the Jukebox. Rumor has it they’ll be playing nothing but new material, so be sure to keep your schedule clear for next Saturday!

“Strangers in a Strange Land” featured on Encyclopaedia Metallum and Chybucca Sounds

0

The Mound Builders - Strangers in a Strange LandGreat things are continuing to be said about the Mound Builders‘ debut release, “Strangers in a Strange Land”. Over the past week, at least two new reviews have emerged on the internet. Grave Wish from Encyclopaedia Metallum had some good things to say…

A recent interest in anything doom, stoner or sludge based brought me to this upcoming southern metal outfit, The Mound Builders. What can be said? If you happen to be into stoner, sludge, or anything heavily distorted, this is your cup of tea! “Strangers in a Strange Land” is best described as a heavy, groovy down-tuned sludge and stoner metal. In all seriousness, I was kind of surprised how this album really grows on you. If you are sick of hearing unoriginal music that lacks inspired ideas you may have encountered a similar situation.

The minds across the pond at Chybucca Sounds were also generous enough to take some time to give the album a listen. Here’s a bit of their response…

The Mound Builders’ ironically-tinged moniker is strangely apt. With generic hard-rock chugging at its core, Strangers in a Strange Land is the sound of a Southern quintet, attempting to reach the summit of stoner-rock’s holy mountain, by using the footprints left by: sludge, doom and to a lesser extent, punk.

In case you haven’t heard it for yourself, “Strangers in a Strange Land” is current available for order on Amazon, iTunes, and Bandcamp. Plenty of CDs still remain. The Mound Builders are scheduled to return to live shows on January 13th when they play the Hoot Night event in downtown Lafayette, Indiana. Two months is PLENTY of time to get yourself acquainted with some good Heartland sludge metal!

Upcoming Show – The Hedons @ The Jukebox – 12/3

0

We are less than a month away from the last scheduled appearance of THE HEDONS for the year of 2011. Be sure to come to the Jukebox on December 3rd to celebrate the birthday of “Iron” Bob Fouts and witness a TITANIC line-up of six rock and metal acts. Also scheduled to appear are Bulletwolf, Goliathon, Devil to Pay, and Photian Schism (all of Indy), as well as sludge thrashers Lair of the Minotaur from Chicago.

That’s a lot of head-banging for a night’s entertainment, and it will only cost you $7 at the door. The Hedons will more than likely be the opening act, so be sure to come early if you want to see them in action — there’s a chance this may be the band’s last show in Indy for some time as the power trio plans on going back to the studio soon.

“Iron” Bob Fouts is one of Indy’s most versatile musicians and sound engineers. He is currently the bassist for Indy doom giants Apostle of Solitude and formerly played drums for local doom metal legends, the Gates of Slumber. Additionally, his Basement Rage Studio situated in Indianapolis has produced the recorded works of the aforementioned Bulletwolf and Goliathon, plus many others… so buy the man a beer and praise his contributions to the Indy music scene!

A quick heads up to the rock fans in Crawfordsville or anybody planning to make the trip there: Helloween, featuring Coffinsville, the Void, and the Hedons, has had a change of venues in recent weeks. Rather than taking place at the Lew Wallace Inn, the show will now be taking place at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Club on 920 E South Boulevard.

Once again, the show starts at 9 PM tonight, and the age limit is 21 and up. There will be NO COVER at the door, so there should be no reason why you shouldn’t get in costume and come out!

The Mound Builders - Strangers in a Strange LandTheir debut album, Strangers in A Strange Land is a whirlwind of fast and furious music. It starts of with an awesome instrumental called “Wake of the Red Witch” which serves as an intro of sorts and lets you know what you’re in store for. If there’s anytime to get out, that’s it because once it starts, may the lord have mercy on your soul.
